When you bet with online sportsbooks one of the perks is that you can claim bonuses. There are a few sports betting bonuses available at the major sports betting sites and we’re going to explain the types of bonuses to you. Sportsbooks offer two types of bonuses including match bonuses and free bet bonuses. There is a difference between the two types of betting bonuses and we’ll explain what both of the bonuses mean below for those of you that are new to online sports betting.

Match Bonus (Cash Bonus)

Most US sportsbooks and even some of the UK / European bookmakers offer match bonuses. On your 1st deposit you’ll be able to earn a percentage of your deposit as a bonus. You’ll be able to earn a match bonus of 100% at a lot of sportsbook although the size of the bonus will vary quite a bit from sportsbook to sportsbook. Match bonuses aren’t technically yours until you meet the rollover requirement.

Match bonuses always have a rollover requirement that needs to be met. A rollover is a predetermined amount that you need to wager before the match bonus you received is actually yours. You can bet with bonuses immediately, but you can’t withdraw the money until the rollover is met. The rollover varies from sportsbook to sportsbook just like the size of match bonuses, but you can expect to have to wager a 100% cash bonus anywhere from 3x – 10x.

Free Bets (Risk Free Bets)

A lot of the European and UK bookmakers offer risk free bet bonuses instead of match bonuses. Risk free bets are much smaller than match bonuses, but the rollover requirements are also easier to meet on risk free bets when compared to match bonuses. When you have the chance to claim a risk free bet you need to make a deposit and place a wager. If the risk free bet is worth a maximum of $50 you should bet $50 on your 1st bet because if the bet loses you’ll receive your original $50 stake back.

No Deposit Sports Betting Bonuses

You’re not going to find that many online sportsbooks offering no deposit bonuses. A couple of the big UK bookmakers have no deposit bonus offers, but usually the no deposit bonus is restricted to certain countries. No deposit bonuses allow you to join an online sports betting site and place a wager without risking any of your own money. Make sure you read all of the terms for no deposit bonuses because there are always lots of rules that need to be followed.

Reload Bonuses

Just like no deposit bonuses, you won’t find too many sportsbooks offering reload bonuses. There are a couple sportsbooks that offer a weekly reload bonus and one sportsbook even offers a bonus on every deposit you make. Taking advantage of the sports betting bonuses at your disposal is important when you first start betting. Bonuses will help you build your bankroll and will make up for mistakes you make while betting on sports.
